Today’s the day! After months of planning, we are excited to open the Rising Up Day Center. The Day Center is only possible thanks to a generous partnership with the United Methodist Church and a countless number of volunteers.
So what is the Day Center? Well, as we have mentioned before, one of the biggest challenges we face is losing progress with our homeless neighbors that was gained through the months that the warming center was open. Though we have made every effort to stay in contact with our neighbors, not having a “place” for them to go has hindered those efforts. With the opening of the Day Center, we will be a place for our homeless neighbors to come and get help with connecting the dots to existing agencies, job searching and guidance, housing searches, fellowship and a hot meal. Initially, we are opening the Day Center 2 days a week, and will be available to assist our neighbors in any way that we can.
For now, we are celebrating our successes. “The opening of the Day Center is a monumental achievement for us,” said Pam Hernandez, the Rising Up Executive Director.
“We are happy that we will be able to offer continuity and a stable place for our neighbors to seek assistance in a place where they feel safe and where they know that they are truly cared for,” she continued.
