Rising Up Day Center
On June 1, 2016, the Rising Up Day Center opened. One of the issues that Rising Up discovered when the Warming Center closed for the season, was losing contact with our homeless neighbors, thereby losing progress that they had gained. The ability to offer assistance with setting appointments, searching for jobs and housing, and navigating the myriad of programs and services that may be available to them, is highly dependent on consistent contact with our homeless neighbors. Establishing a trusted relationship with our neighbors allows Rising Up to serve as a “safe” place for them to get help filling out applications, connecting with other area agencies and accessing health care and other services they need depending on their individual situations.
When the Warming Center closed, regular communication with our neighbors was lost, which hindered their efforts to getting things accomplished that would help them move forward in their lives. Continuous support and contact is critical to helping our neighbors stay on a positive path toward self-sufficiency.
The Rising Up Day Center has provided the solution to this challenge. The Day Center serves as a place for our homeless neighbors to come and get help in a safe environment where they know there are people who care about them and want to help them succeed. In addition to this assistance, Rising Up shares breakfast and lunch with our neighbors. We started by opening the Day Center 2-days a week, and on September 1, were able to increase to 3-days a week.
